Pakistani forces have killed a top Taliban commander in a gun battle in Karachi.
Abid Muchhar was gunned down on Friday during a raid by Pakistani forces that took place in Manghopir, Kunwari Colony, which is home to many militant groups.
The forces also killed another Taliban commander, Muhammad Hussain, during the same attack.
Muchhar was the head of a terror network operating in Manghopir, Kunwari Colony and Pirabad.
He was also in charge of the killing of police officer Shafiq Tanoli.
Pro-Taliban militants have carried out numerous attacks against security forces as well as civilians, and managed to spread their influence in various regions of the country, despite sporadic offensives by the Pakistani army.
Militants are extremely active in Pakistan’s tribal regions, which border neighboring Afghanistan.
Thousands of Pakistanis have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001, when Pakistan entered an alliance with the United States on the so-called war on terror.
Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping across the country.
